Chatty Cathy

Lately Penny has come to really enjoy the sound of her own voice. She just talks and talks and doesnt seem to care if I'm listening or not.

What Has Penny Been Up To? (Video Edition)

Penny is always all smiles in the morning...

My favorite thing about Penny is when she smiles. I love that now her smiles are directed at something/someone and not just random.

What Has Penny Been Up To?

You might ask, what is little Miss Penny up to these days? What does she spend her time doing? Well, here is the routine of a 2 1/2 month old young lady.

Every morning I wake up to this sweet face. She is always in a good mood in the morning (which makes it easier to get up). She usually makes lots of noise, but not really crying when she wakes up. She sleeps in a Swaddle Me, so she looks like a burrito, but it works. She makes jerky motions in the night that wake her up, so this thing confines her so she doesn't wake herself up.

After she wakes up, has a diaper change, and eats, she is still wide awake and in a good mood. So we play a little bit; she likes looking at the colorful playmat I have up in my room. We have some tummy time so she can get her neck and arms strong.

Then she relaxes while I get dressed for the day.

Then we get Penny dressed.

Downstairs she likes to hang out in her bouncer seat.

She is usually a good sport if we have to go run errands. The car ride usually puts her to sleep. She is also starting to be entertained by hanging colorful toys in front of her, so I've got one of those on her car seat. I have become a master of reaching to the back seat, feeling around the car seat, finding the pacifer, and then finding her mouth to put it in...while keeping my eyes on the road. This is one of my few mothering talents.

Penny recently added the Bumbo chair into her daily activities. She looks so big and cute sitting up in it. It is so nice to have something that helps her to sit up, since she can't yet sit up on her own.

She also has an activity mat that entertains her whether she's on her stomach or back. She has started to be happy playing on her back for up to 15 minutes or so. But she only tolerates being on her belly for a few minutes.

And of course we have lots of naps throughout the day. Usually she cat naps throughout the day instead of taking a couple long naps. I wont complain too much about her napping schedule (or lack therof) during the day, since she sleeps so well at night.

In the evening Chance comes home and gets some Penny time.

Here she is after a bath. She seems to like baths most of the time. I think sometimes I don't keep her warm enough and she doesn't like that.

Since Penny has been sleeping so well during the night, I decided she could start sleeping in her own room, instead of in the bassinet in my room. So here she is trying out her crib. I got a moniter the other day so I can listen for her at night. She eats for the last time around 9pm and is asleep for the night around 10pm. And she usually sleeps until around 9am. Sometimes she awakes up around 6am, so I feed her and she falls back asleep.

On the 4th of July Chance had to work. So Penny and I met up with my family and we all went up to my Aunt Robin's house to go boating. I was worried about having Penny out in the heat, but we found a shady spot on the shore that stayed plenty cool. It was such a nice day.

Since we were going boating, Penny decided to wear her boating outfit!

Penny's Blessing

Last weekend Chance's family came to spend the weekend with us. It was so nice that we finally have a house so we can host our family (albeit on blowup mattresses). Chance blessed Penny at church. My bff Erin and her family came too. Then afterward, my family came over too, and we all had lunch at our house. It was crazy, but fun!

On Saturday, we all went to my mom's house and hung out at the pool.

Then on Sunday we all went to church together. It was quite a task getting 12 people out of the house and to church on time (even if it was at 1pm), especially when our building is almost 40 minutes away. We barely made it! Chance gave an absolutely beautiful blessing. I got compliments and comments about it all day. I was a proud wife and momma. I'm so grateful to have Chance for a husband. I should work on telling him that more often.
Here we are outside of the church.

Of course I loved how cute Penny looked in her little white blessing dress.
My favorite part of the outfit...the shoes.

I love this one of of Penny and my dad!

Days of Summer

We are getting settled into our new neighborhood. Here are pics of me and Penny's first walk around the block...trying out the jogging stroller. She did good. I didn't dare go too far from home in case of a sudden meltdown. Since then we have had some successful and some unsuccessful outings. We try and get out and about the neighborhood everyday, but man has it been hot lately.

Trying to stay cool at the pool. Penelope has a swimsuit, but it is just for looks. I don't want her out in the sun, so she just looks cute in the shade while mom, Rachel and I hang out at the pool.

Last week we went to the doctor for Penny's 1 month checkup. She got her first shot. It was so sad, but she was so brave. I said to the nurse that administered it that this MUST be the worst part of her job. She concurred. She got this cute Snoopy band-aid, but that didn't seem to soothe her.

Most of the time we can't get her to sleep in her bassinet, but she seemed to manage here...looking ultra relaxed!
